Petitions and application processes with U.S. immigration agencies can be somewhat time-consuming, and they can even generate a certain anxiety in people who are waiting for an answer.

Knowing how to check the status of your USCIS case online, may help you control this mix of emotions, since you can check whenever you feel like it and follow the progress of the process from wherever you are. We are here to teach you how to do that.

To access U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services case status, you must:

2. Enter your receipt number, which it is composed of 13 characters: 3 letters at the beginning followed by 10 numbers. The most common three letters are: EAC, WAC, LIN, SRC, NBC, MSC or IOE. You can find this information in the Action Notices that USCIS has sent to you (also known as "Receipt Notices").

3. Click on "Check Status".

4. When the page refreshes, you can see the current status of your case.

5. If you have not finalized your entire process yet, the system will inform you what the next step is in your case.
